We asked her to share more about her experience tutoring with Team Up:

“The last year has shown how crucial education is to children’s attainment and those without access to space, resources and time will fall behind. Not new findings, but I thought the least I could do was to give some of my time and resources to help some individuals have more opportunity to learn and advance to their potential!”

I worked with two pupils this term on KS2 maths topics including single digit division, multiplication and subtraction. They were both highly engaged in the lessons, sometimes needed a little bit of help in focusing but were really eager to learn and work out the answers! Both have really opened up from the first  lessons in terms of confidence in answering questions, and explaining their logic. I have loved each session, although it’s been challenging in terms of keeping them actively engaged, but brilliant for me to expand my ability to be patient!

The curriculum resources and lesson plans provided by Team Up are brilliant. Simple and effective, easy to follow through and teach from. Freya, our Programme Manager, does a great job of checking in several times and following up with debriefs with helpful tips on the practicalities of being a tutor!

“It’s been brilliant at taking me out of my comfort zone, and really rewarding working with my pupils - I’ve really enjoyed it, and I’ve even picked up a few new maths skills myself!”

I would really recommend this programme. If you can find a couple of hours a week then it’s really quick to pick up each lesson and working with the children is highly rewarding. They will keep you on your toes, and you’ll be so proud of what they achieve!

On behalf of the Team Up team and pupils, we say: Thank you Kate!
