Closing the Gap: Our Impact in Autumn 2019

Team Up students made fantastic progress last term as we continue on our mission to close the disadvantage gap in education

According to the Children’s Commission, children on free school meals are more than twice as likely as non-FSM students to leave school without passing their GCSEs.

Two-thirds of the students we worked with during the Autumn term were on free school meals. They began the term an average of more than 1 grade behind age-related expectations.

Despite having previously fallen behind their peers, our students successfully made progress at a pace matching or exceeding expectations: more than 80% of the students made expected progress over the term, and over half the students made double expected progress.

We are really proud of the students we worked with and the achievements they have made.

Our students shared some thoughts about their experiences working with their tutors on the Team Up programme:

“It has helped me through my learning and made me a confident student”

“Thank you for making everything make sense”

“Thank you for giving me courage when I needed it the most”
