Happy New Year from Team Up!

Happy New Year from Team Up!

Goodbye, 2018...hello, 2019! It's a new year and we're so excited to get the Spring term underway.

Looking back:

Autumn 2018 was a busy term for Team Up. We welcomed new team members; we kicked off the academic year with 20 tuition programmes in 18 partner schools; and we worked with 415 pupils from Key Stages 2-4. Our outcomes were outstanding: an average of 0.8 grades of progress, with 33% of our pupils improving by a grade or more. We also improved our impact on those pupils who started the Team Up programme just one grade below their 'target threshold' - 73% of them reached the grade that will bring them back on track to get a good pass at GCSE.

We couldn't have done it without the support of our amazing volunteer tutors. 135 inspirational role models, from all walks of life (including university students, sixth-formers, graduates, and the retired) gave up their time, week after week, to provide both academic and pastoral help for their pupils.

Our pupils said:

Detailed sessions with no judgment on topics we were unsure of. Interactive and fun sessions that made me enjoy maths when I was sure I hated it.

(Autumn term pupil, KS4 maths)

You have made me believe in myself

Join us for 2019:

So, onwards to 2019. We've got a bumper term coming up: 28 programmes at 25 schools and one youth leadership organisation. Our partner schools are located right across London, and we're working with pupils from the age of 9 all the way to 16 (in those crucial pre-GCSE months!).

We've already got a set of fantastic tutors, but can always use more. If your New Year's Resolution is to give back to your community, develop new skills, add sparkle to your CV or just get out more, Team Up is the opportunity for you. Why volunteer with us? We'll provide you with a comprehensive resource pack to teach from, a detailed breakdown of your pupils' needs, a full induction day, further online training, weekly support from your Programme Manager (a trained teacher who will give you personalised feedback on your teaching), your own career or study mentor, access to our leadership seminars and the chance to gain an accredited award. That's all in return for just 1.5 hours of your time each week over the 10 week term.

To get involved, please apply here. We're recruiting on a rolling basis - although our main induction is on the 13th January, so we'd encourage you to get your application is as soon as possible to get started for the new term. You can browse our placements here, filtering by subject, day and location to find something that works for you.
