For the past 4 years we’ve partnered with the London School of Economics (LSE), supporting their students to tutor disadvantaged, underachieving pupils in 2 London secondary schools.

Our partnership with the London School of Economics
In 2024, LSE students became Team Up maths tutors to a group of 20 Year 11 girls at Barking Abbey School in East London. The girls were all eligible for free school meals and about to sit their GCSEs.
Following the tutoring, the girls achieved amazing results, with everyone receiving grades 7-9, and all 20 going on to study maths at A level.
Becky Saxby Smith, Senior Widening Participation Officer at LSE, says:
“Team Up helped us to transform the delivery of the programme by leading on the recruitment and training of tutors and providing the key link between the LSE and our partner schools.
“Having a Team Up programme manager on the ground, supporting the school and motivating the pupils to attend each week was integral to the success of the programme.
“The programme managers were dedicated to understanding the school’s needs and how they could accommodate that to ensure engagement and retention of the pupils.”
Becky continues:
“The impact of the programme has been visible year on year through pupils’ grade improvements as well as Team Up empowering the LSE tutors through guidance, feedback and motivation to take on their role as a tutor.
“Team Up truly care about the work they do and this is evident in their conduct, communication and flexibility to build a programme that works for our team, our partner schools and the young people at the very heart of the initiative.
“It has been a pleasure to work in partnership with them and build a successful tutoring programme, valued by all involved.”
