David joined us as CEO in September 2019.
David has long-term experience of working at a senior level in the education and charitable sectors. He has worked at a national level in programme and operational delivery, public affairs and communication roles for Career Academies UK - a social mobility charity, Association of Colleges - a further education representative body - and a multi-academy trust. He has significant policy experience, having worked for the Confederation of British Industry and a major criminal justice charity.
David is passionate about social mobility and fairness for all young people, based on his own experiences growing up in Sunderland during a time of high unemployment, where he attended his local comprehensive school and FE college. He was the first in his family to go to university. He read history at Oxford and is a qualified barrister. He believes all young people should have opportunities and a decent chance in life. As a volunteer, David has been Chair of Governors at a deprived inner-London primary school and is chair of a young people's vacation education charity.
