Why Take Part

Why Take Part

There are many benefits that you can gain from taking part in our programme. These include gaining an accredited Leadership award, receiving a professional mentor and up to £100 in coffee vouchers.

The benefits you will receive are partly determined by the number of programmes you complete. Please see the table below for more information.

Be part of the Team Up community

You’ll be working alongside a group of fellow role models at your school, and supporting one another at your weekly debriefs.  If you're on campus, you'll also be able to join your university Team Up society, providing access to socials, talks and other events, and even go on to become part of your Team Up society committee where you’ll have the chance to lead your university's participation in the Team Up programme.  There are also opportunities for work experience at the Team Up headquarters.

Gain an accredited qualification

Team Up tutors can work towards the Leadership Award, accredited by the SSAT, a leading organisation working to develop educational leadership and raise attainment levels in the UK.  In addition to completing the 14-week programme, to receive the qualification, tutors will need to:

  • Complete at least one leadership unit

  • Complete at least two online teacher training units

  • Be graded at least a 'good' in their formal observation

Get free coffee with our friends Department of Coffee and Social Affairs

Your mentor will work with you to devise a plan on how to best help: be it to set career goals, improve your UCAS or job application forms or practice your interview technique.

As a Team Up tutor you can request a number of references from your Programme Manager. The programme stream you choose gives guidelines on how many times you can list TU as a referee. See here for more information about our reference policy.

Get training and event management experience

All Senior and Outstanding tutors will be invited to help deliver training to new tutos. This is optional, but provides a great opportunity to develop further demonstrable skills in team work, training and facilitation.  In additional Team Up organises special trips for pupils to raise their aspirations, e.g. visiting local university campuses.  As a Team Up tutor, you will have the opportunity to get involved with these events when they happen.
